nosferatu

In his novel Dracula, Bram Stoker defines this as the Romanian term for vampire, but it was either a mistranslation on his part or a savvy fabrication. "Nosferatu" seems related to Romanian terms for Satan.

A widespread, rampant and fast-moving outbreak.

foreboding

A sense of ominous and menacing threat soon to arrive.

In a state of disrepair due to long periods of neglect.

oppressions

Series of things which serve to limit the sense or expression of freedom.

Sleepwalking; slow-moving and detached from surroundings as if in a trancelike state.

Characterized by a need or desire to consume meat

sanitarium

An infirmary, clinic or spa for the purpose of regaining one’s full health after sickness.

phantom

A figure lacking substance; an apparition.

diabolic

Fiendishly evil; hellish and characteristic of the devil.

unhallowed

A place not considered holy; unconsecrated and unblessed; impure.

trance

A dreamlike state of being; characterized by appearing as if in a stupor or lost in a daydream.

menace

A perilous threat posing a real physical danger

disembark

To exit from a vehicle of mass transport like ship, plane or horse-drawn coach.

cower

To physical pull back and inward in fear or disgust.

warily

Expressing signs of caution and suspicion.

baffled

Perplexed to the point of being confounded; utterly bewildered.

crypt

A tomb buried fully or partially underground.

plague

An epidemic of pestilence; a scourge often thought to be brought about as the result of a curse of the wrath of God. In this film, the specific plague is the bubonic plague, initially carried to various European port cities by infected rats on ships.
