Office Space Irony

Office Space Irony

Doesn't Care

Peter has decided to stop caring about what happens to him by quitting his job or allowing other people's opinions to affect his desire to be free. Ironically, when he believes Joanna has slept with Lumbergh he is snapped back into a torrent of anger and this shows that he really does care about people and his life in a way he is attempting not to do.

Commute

Peter is attempting to get to work more quickly so he veers out of his non-moving lane in order to get out of traffic. Ironically, each time he moves to a lane that seems to be moving he gets stuck once again, only to find himself behind the same care he was behind before.

Basement

Lumbergh continues to move Milton around the office as if he is a piece of furniture until he places him in the basement. Ironically, Lumbergh's treatment of Milton is what causes the disgruntled employee to burn the Initech building down to the ground.

Skimming

Michael, Samir and Peter decide to begin skimming from the Initech's accounts. They set it up in a way that will divert fractions of pennies at a time into an account. Ironically, they set up an incorrect algorithm and wind up stealing $300,000 in a matter of days.

Truth

Peter decides to write a letter to Lumbergh along with a check for the money that he stole and slides it under his door in an attempt to right what he has wronged. Ironically, he realizes that he can go to jail for a very long time and decides to get the letter out of Lumbergh's office before he can find it.
