The fact that Sussmayr is “this average Joe Shmo” and made something considered amazing, means that genius may not be concentrated in the hands of a few elite. Carl bringing up Mozart because “I’m a musician also” could hint at the idea that maybe Carl and rap could be just as worthy of being called genius as Mozart. Perhaps “genius” is not just the domain of dead white men and stuffy classical music.
