One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich follows in the tradition of other great works of Russian literature, including Crime and Punishment or Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, and Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina and War and Peace. Solzhenitsyn continues similar themes in his other novels, especially The Gulag Archipelago and In The First Circle.
