Add YoursWalsh is a firm believer in the power of writing to transform reality. That is why, when he wrote Operation Massacre in 1957, he did so in the hope that his book would serve as evidence in the trial against those responsible for the clandestine execution of José León Suárez, which occurred on June 9, 1956.
The context in which the events denounced by Walsh are inscribed is that of the Argentina of the Liberating Revolution, which in 1955 overthrew the government of Juan Domingo Perón. The civic-military uprising began a dictatorship that outlawed Peronism, persecuting its supporters and prohibiting its ideas and symbols. This produced a movement known as the Peronist Resistance, which had various demonstrations and attempts to end the dictatorship. The Valle and Tanco uprising of June 9, 1956 is part of this movement. This uprising was quickly controlled by the government led by de facto president Pedro Eugenio Aramburu, through a series of operations that included the illegal murder of rebels and civilians, including those shot by José León Suárez.
