Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer blamed himself for the death and destruction caused by the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Although he helped to create bomb, he had no role in the manufacturing or deployment of the bomb. In fact, it was President Harry Truman who decided to use the atomic bombs on the two cities. It is Truman who bears the ultimate responsibility for that death and destruction, not Oppenheimer, whose guilt was misplaced. Viewers ironically knew that Truman bared the responsibility for the deployment of the weapons, not Oppenheimer.
Kitty
Despite Oppenheimer engaging in multiple affairs with several women, his wife Kitty ironically stayed devoted to him, doting on him and remaining committed to his success. Usually, women whose spouses cheat on them grow disconnected from them. In some ways, Kitty became more connected with her husband.
"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"
Oppenheimer became a leading figure against the further development and use of atomic weapons despite having been a leading figure in their development. Typically, people are proud of their inventions and advocate for their use.
The hydrogen bomb
At the start of the Manhattan Project, Edward Teller advocates for the development of the hydrogen bomb, not the atomic bomb Oppenheimer and others were in favor of. Oppenheimer and the others feared the hydrogen bomb was impractical and would not be as effective as the atomic bomb. In fact, the opposite eventually became true: the hydrogen bomb wound up being more effective and practical (and destructive) than the atomic bomb.
