Describe the people of Suriname. Identify the tone of voice she uses to describe them, and why she employs such a tone.

Strong answers should reference the details in physical appearance as well as elements of character and culture. Students may describe aspects of their lives beyond that, such as the natural environment, their skills and tools. They should identify language that idealizes their ways and paints them as noble people. It is early in the reading to determine why she idealizes life in Suriname, but strong responses will discuss the dynamics that could arise between the people she discusses so far.
