What was your reaction to reading the poems from "Spain In Our Hearts" and "General Song"? How does it differ from your reaction to Neruda's previous poems?
The political poetry of Pablo Neruda is in some respects some of his most inaccessible to Americans — not because of the style of writing, but rather because of the nature and extent of Neruda's political commitments. The teacher can use this question as an opportunity to discuss the students' questions about the text, as well as any other thoughts they might have.
