Plain Truth is an exceptional novel about life, love, religion, deception and justice. It is quite simple in its structure, but the plot is very interesting and unexpected. This novel will appeal to lovers of detectives, because there are many moments of investigation of the infant’s death. Yet this novel is also about life from an everyday perspective, because the main characters have those problems that people can deal with in real life. Extramarital relationships, rejection of children, because they want to love and have their opinion are their problems that reveal the whole plot of the novel. Each character wants to do everything in his own way and maintain his opinion. However, disagreements between parents and children can be the cause of the terrible catastrophe’s emergence in the family.
The main character young girl Katie Fisher wants to love and be a little different girl, not like her parents, but this desire can ruin her life. In addition, her religion does not allow her to spread her wings and live freedom and self-reliant life. The author shows that it is enough just to believe in God. You should not forbid yourself to have fun, to love, to do things that will take your fancy. You have one chance at life and if you want to remember about bright impressions and moments all the time, you must live with pleasure. God will not punish you for kissing someone, wearing clothes that you are not allowed to wear by your parents or running away from your home to see your brother.
It is another matter if you commit any crime. It is a sin, and you are guilty before God. Committing the sin, Sarah Fisher understands that at any time she will have to pick up the bill for her mistakes, because karma exists. Justice will necessarily want to put everything in its place. Everything strikes back like a boomerang.
Deception and justice are also important components in the novel. Ellie Hathaway is a lawyer, therefore, she always need to tell the truth. However, here is a bad example for the reader – Ellie protects her clients, who are guilty and she knows it. How can it be possible? Jodi Picoult shows the reality that exists in our world. Not all of us are honest and fair before God. Sometimes we do wrong things for our own good. When you show your honesty, you understand that everyone lies and you are very hurt. However, everyone lives with the concept “the strongest survives”. Now it is clear why Ellie defends the perpetrators – she is afraid of losing her fame and reputation.
The novel is good due to its real not a fairytale story, where there is always a successful conclusion. It shows that in the world there is not only good, but also evil. This struggle will be endless, because besides the evil and heartless people, there are also kind people, whose souls are like angel’s ones.
