“Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia” is a fantasy novel by Clive Staples Lewis. It is the second (fourth in the chronological order) novel of “The Chronicles of Narnia”. As in the previous novel, the main theme of this novel is a struggle between Good and Evil, as well as themes of courage and faith.
Courage, faith and the struggle with evil consist in the actions of the main characters. Edmund, Lucy, Peter and Susan are too young to perform acts of heroic virtue, but their boldness is so great that it surprises the reader. However, what about devotion? Children are very devoted to Prince Caspian and Narnians and their actions teach readers to be strong and gallant. Caspian X is a striking example of a brave warrior, who wishes peace all the inhabitants.
The novel about Prince Caspian and Narnia is unusual, original, special and just wonderful. This book is quite different, not like the previous ones. In the first three books, the actions take place in order; it is clear how children get to Narnia. However, in “Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia” children are deluded, when they find themselves at some certain place. The plot of the novel has a very particular contrast. There is more mythology than in the previous parts. Everything is so beautifully described that the reader will not be indifferent to the main characters. No matter how magical and naïve this book is, it also has a bit of sadness that concerns High-King of Narnia Peter and his sister Susan.
There are fewer religious motives, kissing the lion’s mane and senseless childishness. It is immediately clear – children have grown up. The second part of “The Chronicles of Narnia” seems to be gloomier and more realistic. The parallel with the Bible is stronger. The gently, unobtrusively intertwined Christian values make the novel didactic and kind.
“The Chronicles of Narnia” astonishes the reader with its every book. Reading “Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia”, the reader will not be able to tear himself/herself off the book even at work or school, plunging into this magical world during the most unsuitable time and place for it. The book is written so brightly and fascinatingly that there is no way to come off. You want to empathize the main characters and tensely watch out for developments despite the fact that this novel is very childish (in that nothing bad happens and the characters do not get unrealizable missions). Nevertheless, the novel touches everybody.
This book is good especially for children, in an instructive sense. It is fascinating, interesting and unobtrusively didactic. Every child will want to imitate his beloved hero. Moreover, unobtrusively analyzed flubs of heroes show the child how not to do. Of course, the book will be interesting not only for children, but also for adults. The most important issues such as the problem of the environment and destroying of the nature are describes here. The novel affirms that if you believe in a miracle, it will necessary happen.
