Rabindranath Tagore may have lived and written at the turn of the 20th century, in a country and culture far removed from the one many U.S. students have grown up in, but he speaks to the enduring, universal essence of the human experience and his stories still resonate with us today. Reading and studying this collection of stories provides an opportunity both to study our own culture by comparing it to one so different in space and time, and to arrive at a deeper understanding of what all humans have in common.
