Woodward explores the reasons behind Trump’s success in the 2016 presidential campaign, which aligns with the shifting values of the American people. He questions why the American people are so desperate to have someone as unstable and childish like Trump at the helm of their country and highlights the real threat he holds to the American people.

Woodward further questions the true extent of America’s supposed democracy. American is always portrayed as the land of freedom and opportunity yet all the major decisions regarding the people of America seem to be made on a whim or via conversations at a golf round. Trump continues to abuse his powers for the purpose of self-interest, which questions whether any U.S citizen is truly free of his poor actions.
Leadership
The book explores Trump’s inherent lack of leadership that his Presidency fundamentally requires. Woodward explores Trump’s childish outbursts and refusal to communicate with the Democrats and other left-wing parties. He stresses the fact that Trump is not fit, both physically and psychologically, to continue on as President.
