The novel Red Star was first published in the Petersburg publishing house "Association of Artists of the Press" in 1908. Then it was reprinted in 1918 and in 1929. Because Bogdanov was one of the ideologists of Proletkult, his work is permeated with Proletkult's ideas and aesthetics. Strictly speaking, Bogdanov set the task of conveying his ideas to the broad masses, and describing them in an interesting literary form was a completely reasonable solution.
Red Star describes a highly developed and prosperous socialistic society on Mars. Its main problem is overpopulation, which was intentionally caused by unlimited population growth. To solve this problem, new territories and resources are required: facing a difficult choice between Earth and Venus, the Martians eventually choose a much more dangerous colonization of the latter, in order to avoid the destruction of the Earth's population. The Martians are embarking on the realization of their plan, the revolution on Earth goes its own way, but interplanetary love affair can contribute to the interaction of the two worlds.
It can be assumed that in the other text there is a counterfactual thought experiment, in other words - a systematic and, in fact, plausible narrative based on fantastic premisses. Narratives of this kind can be defined as mental constructions that can not be embodied in reality. It also might be said that the literary mental experiment in the novel is designed to evoke in the reader a certain reaction and is based on a certain scientific or ideological hypothesis, which it is called upon to confirm or disprove by means of a number of stylistic and rhetorical means.
