Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street Summary

Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street Summary

Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street is a book by Christian author and activist, Jim Wallis. After the Great Recession that lasted for more than a year, Jim felt it necessary to look at what caused the recession. In his book, Jim highlights what he claims were the real causes of the recession.

The author argues that the recession was not only caused by economic problems but also moral degradation in society. Jim highlights that the increased need to appear on top has created a selfish society. Companies, mass media, and even religious institutions are portraying wealth as the main purpose of living. The image of self-success has forced people to abandon moral codes that govern our day-to-day relationships. The author asserts that greed was the underlying cause of the recession.

However, Jim also points out that the Great Recession offers us a chance at a new start. He argues that the crisis acts as a foundation on which we can rebuild our lives economically, socially, and spiritually. Jim also makes a few suggestions that he claims will transform our current selfish views and hopefully the economy. He recommends resurrecting the human spirit: a spirit of compassion, association, and creativity that fights for the rights of everyone.
