Roots has been adapted into film twice. The first was released as a TV mini-series in 1977 and encompassed 10 parts, which are faithful to the book and well-acted. (This version stars Levar Burton, whom younger readers might recognize from his later work as the host of "Reading Rainbow").
A later version was also filmed and released in 2016. Among its stars are Forest Whitaker and Laurence Fishburne. Both versions are available for purchase.
