John H. Miller
John H. Miller is a United States Army Captain of the 2nd Ranger Battalion. When they landed at Omaha Beach in 1944, they were met with unrelenting assault by the German Army. Miller barely makes it out alive to lead a group of survivors behind enemy lines. He is later tasked to find Private James Francis Ryan and bring him home alive. In his search, Miller will encounter the horrors of war, but he will have no choice but to finish his mission.
Despite suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Miller is still capable of leading a group of soldiers into the most dangerous terrain in the world. He's a sharp leader and critical thinker. Miller's skills don't go unnoticed by his superiors. The Allied Command heavily decorates him for his bravery. Despite having reservations about his actions during the war, he completes his mission.
Mike Horvath
Mike Horvath is a United States Army Technical Sergeant. He is second-in-command and Miller's best friend. They've helped each other throughout the war and the landing at Omaha was no different. Miller and Horvath coordinate movements at the beach to get to safety. They have a tight-knit friendship that keeps them sane amidst the insanity of war.
As second-in-command, Horvath fully supports Miller's leadership. He convinces Miller to take up the mission and save Private Ryan. Horvath is a fully dedicated soldier who's ready to lay down his life for what he believes in. When Private Ryan refuses to go home until his mission was done, Horvath again convinces Miller and the rest of the soldiers to fight and defend their position.
Richard Reiben
Richard Reiben is a United States Army Private First Class. He lands at Omaha alongside Miller and Horvath, surviving the assault. Reiben has a charming personality as he entertains his mates with captivating tales. His charm is short-lived when a German soldier takes the life of one of their mates and Miller makes a controversial decision.
Reiben has strong will but he is unruly and constantly disobeys orders. He's overprotective of his teammates. Reiben dares to desert the mission after one of their own is killed. Before the final battle, he berates Private Ryan who refuses to abandon his post. Reiben orders him to survive and make their sacrifices worth it.
James Francis Ryan
James Francis Ryan is a United States Army Private of the 101st Airborne Division. He's one of the four Ryan brothers sent to war. Three of his brothers have so far died and he's been reported missing. Captain Miller is tasked with finding and saving Private Ryan. Despite learning the truth about his brothers, he refuses to abandon his post until the mission is accomplished.
Ryan showcases bravery in the face of grief which inspires Miller and his team to fight with him. He survives the war and goes back home, but Miller and most of his teammates die in the assault. Ryan lives by the promise he made to them on the battlefield to live a life worthy of their sacrifice.
