Sea In Winter Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

The dance studio

The dance studio symbolizes Maisie's passion. Maisie is a 12-year-old girl who started attending dancing classes at age 4. When Maisie first visits the dance studio, she aspires to become a ballet star. Maisie finds everything else boring apart from dancing. For instance, as much as she goes to school, she always thinks of attending her dancing classes. Maisie's passion is to become the world's best dancer.

The knee injury

Maisie's knee injury symbolizes her dark future. When Maisie accidentally injures her knee, she spends several months attending therapy sessions and nursing her pain. Therefore, Maisie cannot do the things she loves especially dancing. Maisie's pain distances her from her friends like Hittite and Eva. Most of the time, Maisie thinks of her trauma and does not have room for her friends.

The summer dance program

The summer dance program symbolizes hope for Maisie. The only thing that makes Maisie believe that she will recover is the upcoming summer dancing competition in Washington. When Massie and her family attend the Olympic Peninsula hike, she tells her parents that she is hopeful of being one of the participants in the upcoming dancing competition. Consequently, the coming competition gives Maisie hope, and she believes she will recover soon to seize the opportunity.
