Faulkner's stories contain descriptions of lynchings and racial terror, racist stereotypes of Black people and Native Americans, and regular uses of racist language. This Lesson Plan avoids racist language whenever possible, but the terms "Negro" and "Indian" are used in plot summaries when they appear in the stories. The teacher may wish to prepare students for difficult content, set ground rules for class discussions, and provide alternative assignments if necessary.
