The River

Kind of Activity:

Creative Writing

Objective:

Students will be able to synthesize complex ideas from the text and relate them to their own life.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.R.4

Structure:

Students will write the teachings of Vaseduva and of the river.

Have students make a list of axioms, thoughts and ideas that would be the teachings of Vasudeva and the river. Explain that while some things might be written in the text, students should feel free to interpret the lessons of the river in their own words. This will help them relate their own experience to the lessons.

Then have students create a river and write everything Siddhartha sees in it....
