Sexual Assault in Speak Anonymous 9th Grade

Sexual assault is an issue that many people are unfortunate to face as it can affect people of any age, race, or location. Nearly everyone has heard of sexual assault, but many people disregard it as a fake issue making it hard for anyone out to come out and say they have been assaulted. This is the main issue in the novel “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson. The protagonist, Melinda Sordino, finds herself unable to bring up the topic of her being raped at the end-of-summer to anyone and does not tell anyone why she called the police.
