Station Eleven is Emily St. John Mandel's fourth novel and was included on many lists as one of the best books of 2014. It tells of a post-apocalyptic near future where 99% of the world's population has been wiped out by a flu pandemic. The narrative unfolds in a non-linear manner, opening with the onstage death of a famous actor named Arthur Leander the day the flu outbreak begins. Mandel weaves a tale of characters with complex connections, skipping from Arthur's life as he became famous to twenty years after the pandemic to the days just after the flu.
