Still Alice is a novel written by Lisa Genova, and was initially self-published in 2007 with iUniverse. The book was then republished by Gallery Books in 2009.
The novel revolves around the life of a middle-aged woman named Alice Howland, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and its detrimental effect on the lives of her family members as well as herself. Alice is a successful professor specializing in cognitive psychology and has an equally academic and ambitious family. The book explores how relationships became to change and fracture as the onset of Alzheimer’s begins to take place, and what this means for Alice’s future.
The novel was critically acclaimed and was on The New York Times best seller list for over forty weeks. The success went on to spew a movie adaptation starring Julianne Moore, who would win an academy award for her portrayal of Alice. The book also won the 2008 Bronte Prize.
