Works from her first book The Colossus and Other Poems, as well as her posthumous book Ariel, appear in this collection and in The Collected Poems. Also consider reading Plath’s famous work of fiction, The Bell Jar.

Consider the works of Anne Sexton, a confessional poet and peer who was influential to Plath’s work. Teachers may want to consider also the works of Ted Hughes, whose marriage with Plath was undeniably turbulent and short-lived, but whose work is also of significance in dialogue with Plath's work—this may be an instance where teachers might choose to "teach the controversy."
