Chapter 1 - The Human Body: An Orientation - Review Questions - Page 49: 11

Answer

The kidneys aren't symmetrical in the body. The stomach is not symmetrical.

Work Step by Step

Individually, each kidney is symmetrical, which means if it is cut in half, each half will mirror the other. The kidneys aren't symmetrical in the body. While their location is almost the same on the right and left halves of the body and they are nearly the same size, the right kidney can be a little smaller and lower in the abdomen. This is because the liver occupies some of the space near the kidney on the right side. Bilateral symmetry in humans is approximate. The liver, stomach, colon, and some other organs are not bilaterally symmetrical in adults. The stomach has 4 parts and those parts aren't the same shape and size.
