Chapter 10 - Muscular Tissue - Checkpoint - Page 301: 5

Answer

Skeletal muscles are well-supplied with blood vessels. Usually there is one artery and two venis per skeletal muscle. The arterial vessels branch out into many capillaries, so that each myofiber ( muscle cell) is in contact with one or more capillaries. The abundant blood supply supports these functions: They bring oxygen and nutrients to the muscles; these substances are necessary to support the often vigorous contractile activity of muscles in work or exercise. The very active metabolic activity of muscles naturally result in the formation of catabolic waste products, some of which are toxic and cause muscle fatigue. The adequate venous drainage of most skeletal muscles removes heat, and the waste products of metabolism; this helps to maintain temperature homeostasis and forestall the development of muscle fatigue.

Work Step by Step

The blood supply of the muscle arterial and venous are also closely associated with each somatic motor nerve.
