The anterior triangle includes some smaller triangles viz., the submandibular, the carotid and the muscular triangle. The important structures in the anterior triangle are lymph nodes (submental, submandibular, deep cervical), the submandibular salivary gland, part of the parotid gland, the facial artery and vein, the thyroid gland, and cranial nerves IX -X11.
The posterior triangle also includes smaller triangles --the occipital and supraclavicular triangles.
Important anatomical structures enclosed in the posterior triangle are the external jugular vein, part of the subclavian artery, cervical lymph nodes, the brachial plexus, and Cranial Nerve XI.
