The femoral nerve is a large mixed nerve that derives from ventral rami of spinal nerves L2-L4. It sends branches to hip and knee, and also provides important innervation for the front of the thigh, the hip and the leg. Hip fracture is one of the main causes of femoral nerve injury. Other causes are gun shots, stabbings and prolonged compression.
