Warmth and cod are mediated by different nerve endings. Temperatures of 10-40 degree C activate cold receptors; temperatures of 32-48 degrees C activate warmth receptors Temperatures below 10 deg.C and above 48 deg. C activate pain receptors. Cold receptors are to be found mainly in the stratum basale of the epidermis; warm receptors are located in the dermis. The itch sensation is produced by the chemical action of a kinins -- mainly bradykinin--usually as a response to local inflammation. Tickle is a puzzling sensation; someone can generate the tickle sensation in you, but you can't tickle yourself.
