The cavity inner ear is called the labyrinth; it is separated from the tympanic cavity by a bony wall with two membrane-covered openings--the oval window and the round window. Medially, the base of the stapes (one of the ear ossicle) is attached to the oval window; at the lateral side of the tympanic cavity the handle of the malleus (of the ear ossicles) is attached to the tympanic membrane.
