The internal jugulars are the largest veins of the head and neck region. They originate as dural sinuses, descend through the neck and each joins the subclavian vein on its side. The linking up of internal jugular and subclavian on each side results in the formation of two brachiocephalic veins; the brachiocephalics join to form the superior vena cava which delivers venous blood form the head and neck to the right atrium.
