Mean arterial pressure(MAP) is the average blood pressure of the arteries; it is roughly one third of the way from the diastolic pressure to the systolic pressure. Therefore for a person with systolic pressure of 120 mmHg, and diastolic pressure of 66mmHg, his/her MAP would be 84 mmHg. This pressure is 36 mmHg from the systolic pressure of 120 mmHg, but it is only 18mmHg away from the diastolic pressure of 66 mmHg MAP =66+[1/3(120-66)] =66+[1/3*54] =66+18 =84 MAP=84 mmHg; 120-84=36 mmHg: MAP is 36 mmHg less than the systolic pressure 66+18=84 mmHg: MAP is 18mmHg greater than the diastolic pressure Conclusion: MAP is closer to the diastolic pressure
