If the pancreatic and bile ducts are blocked, bile and pancreatic juice are not able to get into the duodenum. The consequence is that foods-- carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids --cannot be adequately digested. Lipid digestion will be a special problem. In this situation, large amounts of undigested lipid will be excreted with the feces and the amount of lipids absorbed will be correspondingly decreased. This would be the case because the bile salts necessary for the emulsification of lipids to micelles would not be available. . This is undesirable because micelle formation is required for the absorption of fatty acids and monoglycerides. One negative nutritional consequence of malabsorption of fats is the malabsorption of fat soluble vitamins--A,D,E and K.
