Arteria blood from the hepatic arteries, and hepatic portal blood from the digestive tract mix in the sinusoids of the liver. During absorption, and after nutrients from a meal are absorbed, the nutrient rich hepatoportal blood and the oxygen rich blood ( from the hepatic arteries) mix in the hepatic sinusoids. Oxygen, nutrients and toxins are removed by the hepatocytes. Kupffer cells phagocytize microorganisms, debris and old blood cells.
