Monoglycerides are hydrophobic. Some amino acids are hydrophilic and some are polar. Monoglycerides can easily dissolve in the lipid bilayer of the plasma membrane and be absorbed into the cytoplasm.

The plasma membrane of cells is selectively permeable . Its lipid bi-layer repels large molecules and hydrophilic substances such as polar molecules (glucose, sucrose H+ ions), Monoglycerides are hydrophobic. They can dissolve in the lipid bilayer of the selectively permeable plasma membrane and enter the cytoplasm. Some amino acids are polar, and some are charged. Uncharged polar amino acids like asparagine and serine cannot easily pass through lipid bilayer of the plasma membrane.
