Cholesterol is delivered to body cells by low density lipoproteins (LDLs). The cholesterol content of VLDL is only about 20%, but LDLs have 50% cholesterol.

LDLs transport most of the cholesterol in the blood-- approximately 75 %. This cholesterol is supplied to body cells which use it for repair of cell membranes, and synthesis of steroid hormones and bile salts.
