Five hormones influence Na+, Ca++, Cl-, K+, and water resorption by the tubules. Aldosterone increases water K+ secretion and the reabsorption of Na+, CL- and water. This has the effect of increasing blood pressure and blood volume. The other hormones are angiotensin II, antidiuretic hormone (ADH), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), and parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Aldosterone stimulates both the activity of the Na+/K+ pump in the basolateral membrane, and the Na+ channels in the apical membranes of principal cells of collecting ducts.
