Implantation takes place during the secretory phase of the uterine cycle. If implantation occurs the period after day 14 of the uterine cycle is called the gravid phase.

About 10 days after menstruation the uterus goes int its secretory phase. It increases in vascularity, and the endometrial glands increase in numbers and secretory activity under the influence of progesterone ( and estrogen) secreted by ovaries and later the corpus luteum.
