This process is known as bone remodeling and involves the coordinated activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, which are specialized cells that build and break down bone tissue, respectively. When mechanical stresses are applied to bone tissue, osteoblasts are activated and begin to lay down new bone tissue in response to the mechanical strain. This new bone tissue is deposited in areas of the bone that are experiencing the greatest mechanical stress, helping to strengthen and reinforce these areas. At the same time, mechanical stresses also stimulate the activity of osteoclasts, which break down older bone tissue in a process known as bone resorption. This allows for the removal of damaged or weakened bone tissue, making room for the new bone tissue that is being laid down by the osteoblasts.
