Chapter 7 - The Skeletal System: The Axial Skeleton - Figure 7.1 - Page 194: 1

Answer

The bones of the skull, and the cranial bones belong to the axial category of skeletal bones. The other category of skeletal bones is the appendicular bones: the shoulder girdle bones including the scapula, and clavicle belong to the category; also in the appendicular group are bones of the pelvic girdle-- the humerus and the femur.

Work Step by Step

There are 206 bones in the human skeleton. These bones have been divided into two large groups, namely, the axial bones and the appendicular bones. The axial bones comprises the cranial bones, the face bones and the bones of the vertebral column; also included in this group are the sternum, the ribs, the hyoid bone, and the ear ossicles. The class of appendicular bones is comprised of pectoral girdle( clavicle and scapula), upper limb bones ( humerus to phalanges), bones of the pelvic girdle, and lower limb bones( femur to phalanges).
