Circumduction is not a separate movement, but a sequence of movements that includes flexion, abduction, extension, adduction, --and rotation of the distal end of a part of the body.

Circumduction is most characteristic of multiaxial joints -- the the humerus moving in a circle at the shoulder joint, and the femur moving in a circle at the hip joint. Circumduction has also been described at biaxial and condyloid joints . The movement of the hand in a circle at the wrist joint is also considered an example of circumduction.
