Gene- basic unit of heredity; made up of DNA; determines the genotype of an organism Allele- version or variant form of a gene; determines the phenotype of an organism Locus- location of a specific gene on the chromosome Chromosome- long chain of DNA molecules that contains all genetic materials of an organism Dominant- an allele is dominant if it produces a dominant phenotype in individuals who have one copy of the allele (usually from one parent) Recessive- an allele is recessive if it produces a recessive phenotype in individuals who have two copies of the allele (one from each parent)
