Chapter 16 - Adaptive Immunity - Questions For Review - Short Answer - Page 502: 2

Answer

Antibody immune responses are used to fight against extracellular pathogens and toxins, whilst cell-mediated immune responses are controlled by t-cells and are used to fight against intracellular pathogens. Both of these immune responses are defensive reactions. However, both also have the potential to fatally harm the body's own cells. As a result, both help to counter-act the other's effects whilst still defending the body against both extracellular and intracellular pathogens.
