Brucella, a gram-negative coccobacilli lacks a capsule. It has the ability to grow and multiply inside phagocytes which are white blood cells that engulf pathogens. Brucella enters the phagocytes and reaches other organs like heart, liver, bone marrow and so on while the phagocytes are travelling through these organs. This ability to survive and reproduce inside phagocytes is the reason Brucella is able to evade antibodies and some antibacterial drugs.
