We know that according to Arhenius definition, when $H^+$ ion is released in an aqueous solution, it is an acid, and when $OH^-$ ion is released in aqueous solution, then it is a base. We know that Bronsted acids are proton donors and Bronsted bases are proton acceptors. Bronsted's definition is relatively better as aqueous solution is not required.
