a) when 1-butanol is treated with Conc. $H_{2}SO_{4}$ elimination reaction occurs where one OH group attached with one C atom and one H atom from the adjacent C atom are eliminated and a double bond is formed and we get butene. Hydrogenation of butene give rise to butane.
b) when 1-butanol is treated with Conc. $H_{2}SO_{4}$ elimination reaction occurs where one OH group attached with one C atom and one H atom from the adjacent C atom are eliminated and a double bond is formed and we get butene. After that, butene is treated with HBr and addition reaction occurs where one Br atom and one H atom is added to two double bonded C atoms and the double bond breaks down to single bond. We get 2-bromobutane. Treatment of 2-bromobutane with aqueous KOH give rise to 2-butanol by substitution reaction where Br is substituted by OH. Now, oxidation of 2-butanol give rise to 2-butanone.
