Chapter 21 - Exercises - Page 881b: 24

Answer

Two examples of unsaturated hydrocarbons are: 1. 2-butene ($CH_{3}-CH=CH-CH_{3}$) 2. 2-butyne ($CH_{3}-C\equiv C-CH_{3}$)

Work Step by Step

Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons having at least one C=C or $ C\equiv C$ bond in them. Here, all C atoms are not saturated with H atoms. Unsaturated hydrocarbons contain at least one C-C double bond or triple bond that makes the hydrocarbon unsaturated i.e. all C atoms are not bonded with four atoms. double bonded C atoms are bonded with three atoms where as triple bonded C atoms are bonded with only two atoms instead of four atoms.
