Chapter 16 - Section 16.5 - Stream Channels - Concept Checks - Page 483: 1

Answer

Bedrock channels are more likely to be found near the head of a stream. As the stream flows downstream, it tends to erode and transport sediment. In the headwaters, where the stream begins, the flow is often faster, and the stream may not have accumulated enough sediment to create a significant depositional plain. Therefore, the stream is more likely to cut into bedrock, forming a bedrock channel.
