Chapter 18 - Section 18.3 - Glacial Erosion - Concept Checks - Page 551: 4

Answer

A glaciated mountain valley has a U-shaped cross-section with steep sides and a flat bottom. It may have hanging valleys formed by smaller tributary valleys. Glacial deposits called moraines can be found, including terminal moraines at the farthest point of glacier advance, lateral moraines along the valley sides, and medial moraines where two glaciers merge. Glacial lakes may form when a glacier retreats, often surrounded by steep walls or moraines.
