Answer

The basic difference between drilling a well to recover oil and gas from an anticline and drilling a well to recover natural gas from shale deposits lies in the geological structure and the nature of the reservoirs. An anticline is a type of geological fold where the rock layers are arched upward, forming a dome-like structure. In this case, oil and gas are typically trapped in porous rock layers within the upward-arching fold. Drilling a well into the anticline allows for the extraction of these hydrocarbons. On the other hand, shale gas is trapped within impermeable shale rock. To recover natural gas from shale deposits, a technique called hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is used. In this process, wells are drilled vertically and then horizontally through the shale formation. A mixture of water, sand, and chemicals is injected at high pressure to fracture the shale and release the trapped gas, allowing it to flow to the wellbore.
