Net in-migration means more people moving into the community than leaving. Net out-migration means more people leaving than moving in. My local community, Chicago, has seen net out-migration in recent years. Many residents have relocated to states like Texas, Florida, and Indiana because of push factors such as high taxes, cost of living, and harsh winters. At the same time, Chicago still experiences in-migration, especially from immigrants and students drawn by pull factors like job opportunities, top universities, and the city’s cultural diversity.
